Terrifics 6 Hammers 1. The league’s best pitcher thus far, Steve Carlton of the Terrifics, remains unbeaten, as his club beat the last place hammers, 6-1. A Garry Maddox error in the first inning cost Carlton a shutout, but he did rack up his third straight complete game win. Reggie Jackson and Jim Rice homered for the Terrifics. Willie Mays was dinged up running down a ball in the outfield and will miss a couple of games. Carl Yastrzemski filled in at center in this game. WP-Steve Carlton(5-0). LP-Juan Marichal(1-3). HR-Reggie Jackson(8), Jim Rice(2).

Clippers 9 Mad Dogs 2. Jimmie Foxx and Jackie Robinson led the Clippers past the first place Mad Dogs, 9-2, thanks to hot bats swung by both. Foxx singled in two runs, then smashed a three run homer in the fifth; while Jackie homered and doubled, scored three times and drove in three runs. WP-Dizzy Dean(4-2). LP-Greg Maddux(2-3). HR-Chipper Jones(5); Jimmie Foxx(9), J. Robinson(5).

Naturals 4 Comets 1. Troy Tulowitski and Robinson Cano led the offense, as Max Scherzer beat Bob Lemon, 4-1. Tulo had a pair of doubles and a single; Cano, a homerun and two singles. WP-Max Scherzer(4-2). LP-Bob Lemon(2-3). HR- Robinson Cano(2).

Sultans 9 Peaches 2. The Sultans exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh, enroute to a 9-2 pasting of the Peaches. Joe Jackson, Babe Ruth and Tris Speaker all homered in the fateful frame. Four of the runs were charged to starter, Ed Walsh, the last three to reliever, Vean Gregg. Hal Chase went deep in a losing cause. WP-Dazzy Vance(4-1). LP-Ed Walsh(2-2).
