GAME RECAPS:

Terrifics 8 Hammers 1. Tom Seaver went the distance for the first time this year and had plenty of offensive help along the way, as the Terrifics defeated the Hammers, 8-1. Mike Schmidt, Reggie Jackson and Johnny Bench all homered; Rod Carew had a single, double and triple and scored three runs. WP- Tom Seaver(3-4). LP-Don Drysdale(1-4). HR-Mike Schmidt(9), Reggie Jackson(9), Johnny Bench(4); Elston Howard(3).

Naturals 6 Comets 2. In a battle of two teams heading in different directions, Ryan Braun’s first inning grand slam off of Robin Roberts’, highlighted a five run inning, from which the Naturals, who have won three straight, never looked back. The 6-2 win was the third in a row for the Naturals, while the Comets, have lost their last three games. WP-Clayton Kershaw(3-3). LP-Robin Roberts(3-4). HR-Ryan Braun(1) gs.; Norm Siebern(7), Roy Sievers(2).

Sultans 9 Peaches 6. The Sultans got things started with four runs in the top of the first(all unearned, thanks to a Wildfire Schulte error); but the Peaches answered right back, scoring three in their half of the first, plus two more in the second and a sixth run, in the bottom of the third. The Sultans scored twice in the top of the sixth, tying the game and later, put it away, with a run in the eighth and two in the ninth. Final: Sultans 9 Peaches 6. George Sisler and Ray Schalk paced the offense with three hits apiece. Schalk had three doubles. Honus Wagner was hurt and will miss at least a game. WP-Stanley Coveleski(3-1). LP-Vean Gregg(1-2).

Clippers 4 Mad Dogs 3. The surging Clippers, winners of their last four games, defeated the Mad Dogs, 4-3, thanks to Lou Gehrig, who had the day’s second grand slam. Mad Dogs’ starter, Roger Clemens began the sixth inning with a 3-0 lead, but a walk and two big errors by Roberto Alomar and Alex Rodiguez, respectively, loaded the bases for Gehrig. The Mad Dogs decided to stick with Clemens and it backfired, as Gehrig sent one over the wall, with what would end up being the games winning run. The Clippers swept this series and as a result, the Mad Dogs are now a half game back of the Naturals. WP-Schoolboy Rowe(2-1). LP-Roger Clemens(4-2). HR-Barry Bonds(6), Sammy Sosa(7), Chipper Jones(6); Lou Gehrig(5) gs.

Note: All teams have a double header scheduled for tomorrow, May 16.
