MAY 16. DOUBLE HEADER RECAPS

Mad Dogs 7 Comets 2. The Mad Dogs bombed the Comets in the opener, belting two, three run homeruns off Warren Spahn, in just an inning and a third. Barry Bonds took Spahn deep in the opening stanza, with two aboard, then Ken Griffey Jr. turned the trick the very next inning. Griffey also had three singles, for a 4-5 afternoon. Tom Glavine earned the victory on the mound. He has now won his last five decisions. WP-Tom Glavine(5-1) LP-Warren Spahn(2-5). HR-Barry Bonds(7), Ken Griffey Jr.(9).

Mad Dogs 3 Comets 1. The Mad Dogs won this one, 3-1, but a tip of the cap is warranted for losing pitching, Lew Burdette. The Comets burned through most of their bullpen in the last game, so Burdette was tasked with going as deep as possible in the game, with only Elroy Face, to back him up. Though he gave up three runs on eight hits, he pitched a full nine innings, giving his slumping club[The Comets have dropped five in a row] all he could. Burdette’s tall task was made even tougher, thanks to winning pitcher, Kevin Brown, who also finished what he started, with a complete game, four hitter. WP-Kevin Brown(3-0). LP-Lew Burdette(0-1).
