Hammers 4 Clippers 1. The Clippers long win streak was finally halted by the last place Hammers, who won, 4-1. A 1-1 tie was broken in the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Hammers finally got to Mel Parnell, with a walk, a single and doubles by Bill Mazeroski and Ron Santo. Santo was in to replace Brooks Robinson, who was hit by a Parnell fastball. He’ll be out a couple of days. Juan Marichal grinded out a complete game win, his first of the year. Despite giving up ten hits, the Dominican Dandy struck out nine and allowed just one run, a solo homerun to Jimmie Foxx, in the second inning. WP-Juan Marichal(2-4). LP-Mel Parnell(3-4). HR-Jimmie Foxx(11).

Comets 6 Peaches 5. Mickey Mantle bookended a pair of homeruns, hitting one in the first off Eddie Plank, then smacking the game winner off Three Finger Brown, in the bottom of the ninth, as the Comets edged the Peaches, 6-5. The Peaches got triples from Hal Chase and Birdee Cree, plus a homer from Wildfire Schulte, but fell a run short, thanks to Mantle. Norm Siebern also homered for the Comets. WP-Early Wynn(2-1). LP-Three Finger Brown(2-2). HR-Wildfire Schulte(7); Mickey Mantle 2(13), Norm Siebern(8).

Naturals 9 Mad Dogs 8. The Mad Dogs set a new mark for homeruns by one team in a game, with six; but ultimately fell a run short of the Naturals, who won the slugfest, 9-8. Alex Rodriguez(2), Ken Griffey, Jr., Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and Ivan Rodriguez all went deep for the Mad Dogs, but every one was a solo homer. The Naturals had only one homerun, a pinch hit, round tripper by Paul Goldschmidt, in the sixth, but scored four times in the bottom of the eighth, to pull away. WP-Mark Melancon(4-0). LP-Al Leiter(0-3). HR-Alex Rodriguez 2(8), Ken Griffey, Jr.(10), Mark McGwire(12), Sammy Sosa(8), Ivan Rodriguez(2); Paul Goldschmidt(1).

Terrifics 8 Sultans 3. The Terrifics broke a short skid, thanks to George Foster, who led the offense, with two homeruns, in an 8-3 victory over the Sultans, handing Dazzy Vance his second loss. Joe Morgan and Johnny Bench also went yard, in the win. Joe Jackson had a great game in defeat, with a single, double, homerun and a walk. WP- Bob Gibson(4-3). LP-Dazzy Vance(5-2). HR-Joe Jackson(6); George Foster 2(11), Joe Morgan(6), Johnny Bench(6).
