Terrifics 2 Sultans 1. Joe Morgan’s two run homerun in the top of the second inning, were the only runs scored by the Terrifics, but it was enough, as the Sultans could only muster one run in response. That run came in the Sultans’ sixth, when Tris Speaker doubled and later scored. WP-Mickey Lolich(3-3). LP-Dazzy Vance(5-3). HR-Joe Morgan(7).
Hammers 5 Comets. Hank Aaron and Willie McCovey each homered, it was Aaron’s third in his last two games, since returning from the D.L. Ernie Banks and Norm Siebern hit back to back homers in the eighth for the Comets, but their comeback attempt would fall short. WP-Sam McDowell(2-1) LP-Bob Turley(0-2). Naturals 2 Mad Dogs 0. Max Scherzer pitched a masterpiece, a two hit shutout, to defeat Greg Maddux and the Mad Dogs. Scherzer fanned nine and walked just two batters. It was his second shutout of the year. Greg Maddux pitched a solid game himself, working a full nine innings. He allowed two runs on six hits, while fanning seven. Clippers 8 Peaches 1. Stan Musial swung the big bat for the Clippers, belting a pair of three run homeruns. Musial took starter, Ed Walsh deep in the fourth inning, then duplicated the feat against Pete Alexander, in the top of the eighth. Jimmie Foxx had a single and a double and scored twice. Mel Parnell got the win in seven innings of work. WP-Mel Parnell(4-4). LP-Ed Walsh(2-4). HR- Stan Musial 2(10).
