Terrifics 5 Naturals 1 Steve Carlton of the Terrifics, got a complete game victory over the Naturals. Carlton allowed but one run, a homerun to Robinson Cano, four hits, seven strikeouts and two walks. Johnny Bench and Garry Maddox homered for the Terrifics, while Joe Morgan collected a double and two singles. WP-Steve Carlton(6-2). Naturals 2 Terrifics 1 A real pitcher’s duel, this game. Max Scherzer and Jim Palmer traded zeroes for seven innings. Scherzer took the mound, as Adam Wainwright was ineligible, having pitched on May 30th. The Terrifics scored the game’s first run of the game, when Palmer walked the bases loaded in the top of the eighth and Paul Goldschmidt plated a run on a sacrifice fly. Scherzer himself scored the game’s second run in the top of the ninth. He doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch, then scored on an Elvis Andrus basehit. Scherzer’s shutout bid was spoiled in the bottom of the ninth, when, with two out, Cesar Cedeno doubled, then Rennie Stennett drove him in with a single. WP-Max Scherzer(7-3). LP-Jim Palmer(1-1).
