The surging, Mad Dogs, who have won five straight, beat the first place Clippers, 7-3 and are now just a half game back in the standings. The Sultans have displaced the Hammers for the cellar spot after splitting a doubleheader with the Peaches; while the Hammers edged the Terrifics, 4-3.

Hammers 4 Terrifics 3 The Hammers managed to climb out of last place, however briefly, by edging the Terrifics, 4-3. Peaches 5,2 Sultans 4,4 The Peaches and Sultans split a doubleheader, with the result being that the Sultans are now in last place in the league. Ty Cobb won the opener with a two run single in the top of the ninth inning. Game one: WP-Vean Gregg(3-4). LP-Urban Shocker(0-4). HR-Joe Jackson(9). The Sultans held on for a 4-2 win in the B squad game. Stan Coveleski was poised for a shutout, but he faltered with one out in the ninth, allowing two runs, this time on a two run single by shortstop, Jack Barry.
