Naturals 4 Peaches 2 The Naturals managed a sweep of the Peaches. They took the first game, 4-2, behind Max Scherzer, who worked eight innings, allowing just five hits, while fanning seven. Miguel Cabrera homered for the second straight day and now has 21 on the season. WP-Max Scherzer(9-4). LP-Eddie Plank(1-3). HR-Miguel Cabrera(21).

Naturals 2 Peaches 1 14 inn. Three Finger Brown got two quick outs in the bottom of the fourteenth inning, in relief of Walter Johnson, but then gave up a single to Matt Carpenter, who, by the way, was 5-6, with three doubles. Joey Votto also singled and pinch hitter, Troy Tulowitski reached on a Honus Wagner error. Brown then walked in Andrew McCutchen with the winning run. WP-Koji Uehara(3-1). Sultans 2 Comets 1. Both starters; Whitey Ford and Dazzy Vance, each worked deep into the ballgame. Vance went the distance, allowing just four hits and fanning a dozen, while Ford pitched a solid eight innings. With the score tied 1-1 and the game heading into the bottom of the eighth, Babe Ruth blasted his 21st homerun, to put the Sultans in front to stay. These two clubs are heading in opposite directions as the Sultans have won 4 straight, while the Comets have lost four in a row. WP-Dazzy Vance(8-4). LP-Whitey Ford(5-4). HR-Babe Ruth(21).

Comets 5 Sultans 3 The B squad turned things around for the Comets, as they ended a four game skid by defeating the Sultans in the second game of a doubleheader, 5-3. Ted Kluzewski and Yogi Berra led the way, both homering. They are at the forefront of the second team, with four homeruns each. Lew Burdette earned his first win, after dropping his first two decisions, while Red Faber lost for the fourth time. George Kelly hit a homer for the Sultans. WP-Lew Burdette(1-2). LP-Red Faber(1-4). Clippers 8 Terrifics 0 Carl Hubbell stayed unbeaten at 8-0, also earning his first shutout, with a 4 hit, whitewash of the Terrifics. Jimmie Foxx and Joe DiMaggio led the offense, with the former going, 3-5, with two doubles, while Joe D homered and singled. WP-Carl Hubbell(8-0). LP-Steve Carlton(7-3). HR-Joe DiMaggio(10).

Terrifics 5 Clippers 2 11 inn. Jim Rice was the hero in the B squad game, slugging two homeruns, including a walkoff, three run blast, in the bottom of the eleventh inning. Jim Palmer pitched ten full innings before being lifted for pinch hitter, Mike Schmidt. Steve Blass came on in relief and worked the top of the eleventh, before Rice ended it dramatically. Bob Feller worked a solid eighth innings for the Clippers, but after his club scored twice in the top of the third, they couldn’t get him any more runs. WP-Steve Blass(2-2). LP-Hal Newhouser(2-2). Mad Dogs 8 Hammers 1 The Mad Dogs vaulted into first place with a sweep of the Hammers, starting with an 8-1 rout in the opener. The Dogs power was on full display, as three players homered, including a three run blast from Roberto Alomar. Brooks Robinson’s second inning blast was the Hammers lone run. WP-Roger Clemens(7-2). LP-Bob Veale(2-6). HR-Brooks Robinson(6); Chipper Jones(10), Ken Griffey Jr.(15), Roberto Alomar(5).

Mad Dogs 2 Hammers 1 The B squad game was a much closer affair, with the Mad Dogs pulling out a 2-1 victory. The loss ends Jim Maloney’s unbeaten streak, as he drops his first decision. WP-Kevin Brown(4-1). LP-Jim Maloney(6-1). HR-J. Gonzalez(2).
