Clippers 16 Mad Dogs 6. The Clippers poured it on against the Mad Dogs, with an offensive onslaught that was one of the strongest this year. They put up 16 runs, one short of the league record, in the win. Jackie Robinson was on base six straight at bats, including two doubles; Jimmie Foxx belted a pair of homeruns and a double; Joe DiMaggio scored three runs, including a homer and a double and Lou Gehrig had a grand slam. Ted Williams was the only big bopper who went hitless. The Mad Dogs scored three of their six runs late, when the game was long decided. WP-Schoolboy Rowe(5-3). LP-Tom Glavine(7-4). HR-Alex Rodriguez(14), Sammy Sosa(10); Lou Gehrig gs(10), Jimmie Foxx 2(18), Joe DiMaggio(11).

Sultans 9 Hammers 5. The Sultans handed the Hammers a third straight loss, with a 9-5 victory. The Sultans opened the game with a four run, first inning, however the Hammers answered right away, with three in the bottom of the opening stanza. Don Drysdale gave up two more runs in the top of the fourth, then reliever, Sam McDowell struggled, allowing three more runs in the fifth. WP-C. Mays(4-4). LP-Don Drysdale(2-7). Naturals 6 Comets 4. Miguel Cabrera and Yasiel Puig both homered for the Naturals, but it was Puig’s, two run clout in the top of the sixth, which put the Naturals ahead to stay, in a 6-4 win. Cabrera’s homer ties him for the league lead. WP-Justin Verlander(5-3). LP-Warren Spahn(3-8). HR-Miguel Cabrera(22), Yasiel Puig(7); Carl Furillo(2).

Terrifics 6 Peaches 5. He’s not known for power, but Garry Maddox’s solo shot in the top of the sixth inning, gave the Terrifics a 6-5 lead, which held up. Honus Wagner hit a fourth inning, grand slam for the Peaches, but it would not be enough. There were four errors in this game. The Peaches committed three of them, two by Ty Cobb. It is the third loss in a row for Cobb’s team. WP-Mickey Lolich(4-3). LP-Ed Walsh(2-5). HR-Johnny Bench(13), Garry Maddox(2); Honus Wagner gs(10).
