JUNE 16 NEWS: Three of the four games ended in walkoff fashion in the bottom of the ninth. The Clippers beat the Mad Dogs to take over sole possession of first place by one game.

Clippers 6 Mad Dogs 3. Lou Gehrig belted a walkoff, three run homerun, as the Clippers defeated the Mad Dogs, 6-3, to take over sole possession of first place. Mark McGwire smacked a pair of solo shots, to take over the homerun lead. WP-Lefty Gomez(2-3). LP-Billy Wagner(3-1). HR-Mark McGwire 2(24); Lou Gehrig(11).
Sultans 4 Hammers 2. In the only game which did not end as a result of a ninth inning run; the Sultans won a 4-2 decision over the Hammers. Winning pitcher, Herb Pennock had a good day, both on the mound and at the plate. He went seven innings to earn the win and also hit a two run homer in the fifth. That is the first homerun by a pitcher this season. Hank Aaron and Willie Mays hit back to back homeruns for the Hammers, for their only runs. The Hammers have dropped four in a row. Comets 4 Naturals 2. In another game which ended in dramatic fashion, Mickey Mantle came through with a two run clout off Mark Melancon, in the last of the ninth. It was Mickey’s second homerun of the game. WP-Bob Turley(1-3). LP-Mark Melancon(5-2). HR-Mickey Mantle 2(21), Roy Campanella(4).
Peaches 5 Terrifics 4. Ty Cobb was the hero in this one, driving a triple into the corner, which plated pinch hitter, Stuffy McInnis, in the bottom of the ninth. Cobb added a pair of doubles, in a 3-4 day. WP-Walter Johnson(3-1). LP-Steve Blass(2-3). HR-Mike Schmidt(18).
