Mad Dogs 11 Clippers 5. A struggling Dizzy Dean, loser of his last three starts, gave up seven runs in just 3.1 innings pitched, in an 11-5 loss to the Mad Dogs. These two teams are in a see saw battle for first place and thanks to this win, the Mad Dogs are once again tied for the lead. Alex Rodriguez had a pair of homeruns and a six rbi day, to lead the offense for the Mad Dogs. WP-David Wells(6-4). LP-Dizzy Dean(8-5). HR-Alex Rodriguez 2(16), Chipper Jones(11); Stan Musial(16).
Sultans 8 Hammers 4. Though the Hammers rallied late, the Sultans put up too much of a lead to overcome and won by an 8-4 decision. Dazzy Vance earned the win and also hit a homerun. Comets 10 Naturals 1. The Naturals were routed by the Comets and worse, lost catcher, Yadier Molina for the next four days. He will be replaced by Buster Posey. Norm Siebern had the best day at the dish for the winning Comets. He had a triple and a home run and also walked twice. Winning pitcher, Whitey Ford earned his second complete game of the year. Peaches 3 Terrifics 2. Bob Gibson retired the first 15 men he faced and was pitching a perfect game until Wildfire Schulte homered in the last of the sixth. That of course, took away the perfecto, the no hitter and the shutout. Still, Gibson had a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. Ty Cobb stroked a one out triple and with the infield in, Honus Wagner found a seam and singled Cobb in, tying the game. Sparky Lyle came in and walked Eddie Collins, before giving up a double to Sherry Magee, as the Peaches stunned the Terrifics with a comeback thriller. WP-Vean Gregg(3-5). LP-Bob Gibson(6-6).
