Comets 4 Sultans 3. The Comets and Sultans split a pair of one run games, beginning with the Comets, 4-3 win in the opener. Norm Siebern’s big bat let the way for the Comets, as his eighth inning, two run triple was the difference in the comeback victory. Siebern also homered earlier in the game. Joe Jackson and Pie Traynor had homeruns for the Sultans, in a losing cause. WP-Billy Pierce(1-4). LP-Urban Shocker(1-5). HR-Joe Jackson(13), Pie Traynor(2); Norm Siebern(16).
Sultans 4 Comets 2 11 inn. Joe Jackson was again a factor in the B squad game. His pinch hit double in the top of the eleventh inning put the Sultans ahead, 3-2. The Sultans increased their lead, when George Burns hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Frankie Frisch. Both starters worked deep in the game. Herb Score pitched a full 10 innings, fanning 12 and allowing only 4 hits, but could garner no run support. Sultan’s starter, Burleigh Grimes went seven frames. WP-Stan Coveleski(5-2). LP-Bob Turley(1-4). HR-Roy Sievers(3).
The next featured double header will be the Naturals at the Peaches. Clayton Kershaw(6-4) takes on Rube Waddell(2-6), in the A game, while Adam Wainwright(4-2) battles Walter Johnson(4-1), in the B squad contest.
