Hammers 4 Mad Dogs 2. Elston Howard’s two run homerun in the bottom of the eighth, broke a 2 all tie, as the Hammers went on to upset the Mad Dogs’ in the first of two games, by a score of 4-2. Howard also tripled in the win. Larry Jackson notched the win in relief of Sandy Koufax. All the Mad Dogs runs came via a pair of Sammy Sosa homers. WP-Larry Jackson(5-4). LP-Pedro Martinez(4-3). Mad Dogs 6 Hammers 5. Some late pitching scratches caused Al Leiter to be matched up against Sam McDowell. Al Leiter and the Mad Dogs dug a 5-0 hole, before charging back with three homeruns, to defeat the Hammers, 6-5, earning the split. Craig Biggio’s first homerun of the year, in the top of the sixth, proved to be the game winner. Kevin Brown was terrific in relief of Al Leiter, who was knocked out early.
