Steve Carlton improves to 8-5, defeating Jon Lester and the Naturals. The Terrifics scored all eight runs over the first four innings, getting big flies from: Foster, Jackson, Bench and Morgan. Terrifics’ shortstop, Larry Bowa pulled a muscle running to first and will be out for three days. Dave Concepcion replaces him. WP-Steve Carlton(8-5). LP-Jon Lester(3-10). Terrifics 4 Naturals 1

Jim Palmer tossed a complete game for the B squad, scattering six hits in the 4-1 win for the Terrifics. Cedeno and Fisk belted their first homeruns, while Graig Nettles collected his second. The Naturals lone run came courtesy of an Andrew McCutchen solo shot, in the fourth inning. WP-Jim Palmer(2-2). LP-Adam Wainwright(4-3). Clippers 7 Comets 2

It’s rare that a Clippers-Comets game has no homeruns, but that’s what happened in this one. Joe DiMaggio had three hits and Jackie Robinson had a double and a triple, to lead the offense in a 7-2 Clippers win. Dizzy Dean pitched a strong seven innings, while Whitey Ford was hit hard, allowing six runs in six innings. Jimmie Foxx continued his consecutive game hit streak, now at 15 games; while Ernie Banks had two hits, increasing his hit streak to 17 games in a row. WP-Dizzy Dean(9-5). LP-Whitey Ford(6-6).

Clippers 7 Comets 1

Bob Feller pitched a gem, allowing just one run on three hits, in his first complete game win. He also struck out nine, as the Clippers completed the sweep, in a 7-1 win. Red Schoendiest had three hits, as did Stan Musial, who pitched in from the A squad. Charlie Gehringer had a single, double and sac fly, driving in three runs. Ralph Kiner hit his fourth homer for the Clippers. The shutout bid was spoiled in the bottom of the third, when Gil Hodges tripled and was singled in by Jim Gilliam. WP-Bob Feller(6-0).
