Mike Schmidt scored five runs and drove in four, as the Terrifics won a 10-5 slugfest against the Naturals. Yadier Molina belted two homeruns in the loss. Neither starter was particularly sharp. Loser, Justin Verlander allowed six runs in six innings, while winner, Tom Seaver, gave up five runs in six innings. WP-Tom Seaver(7-10). LP-Justin Verlander(5-5). Clippers 5 Comets 2

Stan Musial knocked in two runs, as part of a three run, seventh inning, sending the Clippers past the Comets, 5-2. The Comets’ Ernie Banks homered for the fifteenth time, as well as extending his league high, consecutive game hitting streak to 19. The Clippers’, Jimmie Foxx, saw his streak come to an end at 16 straight games. He went 0-4 with a walk. WP-Schoolboy Rowe(8-3). LP-Warren Spahn(3-11). HR-Ernie Banks(15).

Hammers 8 Peaches 4

The Hammers chased Eddie Plank early, scoring seven runs against him in just 1.1 innings. Elston Howard had a three hit day, while Bill Mazeroski homered and tripled, in the Hammers’ 8-4 victory. Walter Johnson had a homerun for the Peaches. Ty Cobb was hit by a Don Drysdale pitch in the fifth. He will be out four days. Birdie Cree replaces him in centerfield for the Peaches. Mad Dogs 11 Sultans 7

Relief pitcher, Wilbur Cooper hit a game tying homerun in the bottom of the eighth, then George Sisler walked, stole second and scored the go ahead run on a Tris Speaker single. Unfortunately, Cooper couldn’t hold the Mad Dogs down in the top of the ninth. He surrendered a double, walk and two singles, before giving way to Red Faber. Chipper Jones put the game out of reach by belting his second homerun of the game, as the Mad Dogs beat the Sultans, 11-7. Jones drove in five of the Mad Dogs’ eleven runs. WP-Pedro Martinez(5-3). Wilbur Cooper(2-3). HR-Chipper Jones 2(18), Sammy Sosa(20); Wilbur Cooper(1).
