SULTANS SWEEP MAD DOGS TO DROP THEM 6 GAMES BACK
The Sultans took both games of a doubleheader from the Mad Dogs, dropping the Dogs six games behind the first place Clippers. Dazzy Vance went seven innings to win the opener, 4-3, to improve his record to 11-4. Greg Maddux took the loss, dropping back to a record of .500. A-Rod and Sosa each homered. WP-Dazzy Vance(11-4). In game two, the Sultans scored four runs in the top of the eighth, for a 5-3 comeback win. George Kelly’s two run homer was the big blow in that inning. WP-Stan Coveleski(6-4). LP-Pedro Martinez(5-4). HR-George Kelly(3); Ken Griffey, Jr.(24).

COMETS/CLIPPERS SPLIT TWINBILL
The Comets and Clippers split their twinbill. In game one, Mickey Mantle spoiled Carl Hubbell’s bid for win # 11, socking a sixth inning, grand slam. A total of five homeruns were hit in this one. The Clippers had an easier time of it in the B game, winning, 6-2. Ralph Kiner belted a pair of homeruns, while Hal Newhouser picked up the win on the mound. WP-Hal Newhouser(5-3). LP-Lew Burdette(1-3). HR-Charlie Gehringer(2), Ralph Kiner 2(5).

SURGING NATS MAKE IT SIX WINS IN A ROW
Clayton Kershaw allowed just two hits in seven innings, a single to pinch hitter, Cesar Cedeno, then a mistake pitch to Joe Morgan; which the Terrifics’ second sacker hit out of the park. Javier Lopez allowed no runs and no hits over the last two innings, as the Naturals won 5-2, for their sixth straight victory. Going in the other direction are the Terrifics, who have now lost four straight. WP-Clayton Kershaw(8-6). LP-Steve Carlton(8-7). HR-Joe Morgan(13); Mike Trout(12).

MATTY GOES DISTANCE AS PEACHES ROLL TO FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN
The Peaches won for the fifth straight time, sending Bob Veale packing after just two and a third innings. They led 7-1 after just four innings, adding another run in the eighth to win, 8-1. Meanwhile, the Hammers have dropped four in a row. Christy Mathewson earned his third complete game of the season. Only a solo homerun by Willie Mays prevented a Matty shutout. LEGEND LEAGUE NOTES AT THE HALFWAY POINT
The Clippers have a 6 game lead over the Mad Dogs, but the Naturals and Peaches are both making a push.
Jimmie Foxx of the Clippers, is having a Triple Crown season and is a runaway MVP candidate at the halfway point. Foxx leads the league in batting at .355, is tied with Babe Ruth for the league lead in homeruns with 31 and leads the league in runs batted in with 79. The Comets’ Ernie Banks has a still active, 26 game hit streak going. Four pitchers, Hubbell, Scherzer, Roberts and Vance have reached double figures in wins. Bob Veale, the leading strikeout pitcher, has a chance to reach 300 mark by season’s end. Two pitchers, Clemens and Scherzer, have sub 2.40 earned run averages.
There will be a League Leaders list coming soon. The next scheduled games will be played on July 15th. There will also be a exhibition game featuring the A team All Stars vs. an All Star team from the B squads.
