VANCE, FABER TOSS BACK TO BACK SHUTOUTS FOR SULTANS

Sultans 4 Comets 0

Dazzy Vance showed why he is one of the best pitchers in the Legends League today. He whitewashed the Comets, 3-0, holding them to just three hits. He also struck out ten batters and issued just one walk. It was Vance’s fourth shutout this season.

Rogers Hornsby and Babe Ruth each homered, the Babe’s was his 33rd of the year, giving him sole possession of first place for the home run title, at least for now. Ruth reached base all four times up, with the homer, two walks and a single. Joe Jackson added a triple and Ray Schalk had a double. WP-Dazzy Vance(13-4). LP- Robin Roberts(10-10). HR-Babe Ruth(33), Rogers Hornsby(14).

Sultans 12 Comets 0

Red Faber completed the back to back, twinbill sweep, as the Sultan’s B team destroyed the Comets’ B squad, 12-0. That is the most runs scored in a game without a single homerun being hit. Faber had a couple close calls in his shutout bid. In the seventh, Faber was faced with runners on first and second, with no outs. He got Pee Wee Reese to lineout, then Roy Sievers hit into an inning ending double play. It was not only Faber’s first shutout, but also his first time going the distance in a game.

On the offensive side, Ed Roush went 4-5, smacking a pair of triples. He scored three runs and knocked in two. Buck Weaver also had a 4-5 day at the plate, scoring twice and driving in three runs. Frank Frisch doubled, scored twice and had two rbi’s. WP-Red Faber(2-5). LP-Lou Burdette(1-4).
