GAME RECAPS:

Clippers 8 Sultans 3

The Clippers won the first of two games against the Sultans, 8-3, behind Dizzy Dean. Jimmie Foxx belted homerun #34, to take over the league lead. Lou Gehrig smacked his 24th. Three Sultan errors certainly didn’t help their cause. WP-Dizzy Dean(10-6). LP-Red Faber(2-6). HR-Jimmie Foxx(34), Lou Gehrig(24); Tris Speaker(4), Joe Jackson(16).

Sultans 1 Clippers 0

Little Joe Sewell won it for the Sultans in thrilling fashion, belting a game wining homerun in the bottom of the ninth, for a 1-0 win for the B team. It was Sewell’s first homerun of the year. On the mound, Stanley Coveleski hooked up in a great pitcher’s battle with Lefty Gomez. Coveleski went all the way, earning the shutout win. He scattered six hits and struck out six, with one walk. Gomez was as good, except for the mistake to Sewell, which cost them the game. Gomez allowed only four hits. He had no strikeouts, but also no walks. WP-Stanley Coveleski(8-5). LP-Lefty Gomez(3-7). HR-Joe Sewell(1).

Mad Dogs 3 Peaches 1

The Mad Dogs have cut the Clippers lead to just two games, sweeping the Peaches. The fading Peaches have dropped six straight, falling into the second division. In game one, the Peaches struck first, getting a run in the top of the first. The Mad Dogs would plate two runs in the bottom of the sixth, courtesy of an Eddie Collins error. Sammy Sosa homered in the eighth, adding to the lead. WP-Roger Clemens(11-2). LP-Rube Waddell(5-10). HR-Sammy Sosa(24).

Mad Dogs 6 Peaches 2

Ken Griffey, Jr. helped out the B squad by leading off and playing centerfield. Griffey went two for three, with a double and a homer and scored three runs. Raphael Palmeiro did his part, with a 2-4 day. That included a homerun, single and four runs batted in. WP-Kevin Brown(7-4). LP-Vern Gregg(4-5). HR-Ken Griffey, Jr.(31), Raphael Palmeiro(4).

Hammers 5 Naturals 1

Willie Mays and Frank Robinson each went deep, leading the Hammers to a 5-1 win over the Naturals. Mike Trout added a late homerun for the Nats. On a more dubious note, Willie McCovey took the Golden Sombrero, striking out four straight times. WP-Juan Marichal(5-6). LP-Justin Verlander(7-6).

Terrifics 6 Comets 1

The Terrifics got to Whitey Ford with three homeruns, through four innings, as they collected a 6-1 victory over the Comets. Bob Gibson earned the complete game win; only a seventh inning homerun by Roy Campanella, spoiled the shutout bid. Gibson brought his bat as well, slamming a solo homerun in the third inning. The Comets managed just three hits against Gibby. WP-Bob Gibson(8-7). LP-Whitey Ford(7-8). HR-Roy Campenella(10); Joe Morgan(15), Joe Jackson(28), Bob Gibson(1).

All teams have a day off on July 26th. Games resume on July 27.
