Clippers 4 Terrifics 3.
Heading into the top of the ninth, Clippers starter, Carl Hubbell had a 4-0 lead and had allowed just one hit to that point, a double by Mike Schmidt, in the second inning. He would bend, but not break in the ninth, allowing a leadoff walk to Joe Morgan. Garry Maddox flew out for the first out of the inning, but Rod Carew laced a triple into the corner, plating Morgan. George Foster then homered, pulling the Terrifics to within a run. Lefty Gomez came on if relief and struck out Reggie Jackson. Jax took the golden sombrero, fanning all four times up. He then got Schmidt to fly to left, ending the game. Lou Gehrig had a two run clout for the Clippers, his third straight game with a homerun and his fifth in the last seven games. WP-Carl Hubbell(12-2). LP-Mickey Lolich(7-5). HR-George Foster(27); Lou Gehrig(26).
Mad Dogs 10 Hammers 4.
The Mad Dogs routed the last place Hammers, tying three homerun records in the process. The records tied were: most homeruns by one team in a game-6; most homeruns by both teams in a game-8 and most consecutive homeruns by a team in a game-3. Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey, Jr. and Mark McGwire opened the game by going back to back to back against Don Drysdale. Griffey and Ivan Rodriguez each had two homers on the day. For the Hammers, Hank Aaron went deep and Jim Gentile had a pinch hit blast in the last of the sixth. WP-Greg Maddux(9-7). LP-Don Drysdale(4-12). HR-Ken Griffey, Jr. 2(31), Ivan Rodriguez 2(11), Alex Rodriguez(21), Mark McGwire(31); Hank Aaron(26), Jim Gentile(3).
Comets 5 Sultans 2.
Roy Campanella ended a six game losing skid for the Comets by belting a walkoff, three run homerun, in the bottom of the tenth inning. Babe Ruth moved back into sole possession of the home run leaderboard, with his 36th bomb, when George Sisler and he hit back to back clouts in the top of the fourth. WP-Early Wynn(5-3). LP-Burleigh Grimes(3-6). HR-George Sisler(10), Babe Ruth(36); Roy Campanella(12)
Peaches 8 Naturals 4.
With the game tied at four, the Peaches exploded for four runs in the bottom of the eighth. Jonathan Papelbon gave up three singles and a double, before giving way to Aldrois Chapman. The Peaches four runs came courtesy of a Joey Votto grand slam, in the top of the seventh, tying the game, at that point. WP-Chief Bender(6-4). LP-Jonathan Papelbon(0-3). HR-Joey Votto gs(13); Sherry Magee(19).
