MAD DOGS GAIN 1/2 GAME AS THEY HOLD OFF PEACHES
SCHERZER EARNS WIN #14 FOR NATURALS
GAME RECAPS:
Mad Dogs 7 Peaches 6
The Mad Dogs gained a half game back against the idle Clippers, by defeating the Peaches, 7-6. The Peaches had won 3 in a row before today. Alex Rodriguez had a triple and a single; while Chipper Jones had a double and a single. Ken Griffey, Jr. clubbed his 36th homerun, on the game’s first pitch. The Mad Dogs led, 7-2, before Ty Cobb belted a three run blast in the bottom of the seventh. That would be David Wells’ last inning on the mound. Trevor Hoffman pitched the final two innings, with a bit of drama in the bottom of the ninth. After getting pinch hitter, Fred Clarke for the first out, Hoffman walked Honus Wagner. Wildfire Schulte then flew out to centerfield. However, Cobb then singled and Hal Chase reached on a two base error by Chipper Jones. That plated Wagner and put runners on second and third. Hoffman then reared back and fanned Frank Baker for the final out of the game. WP-David Wells(12-5). LP-Ed Walsh(7-9). HR-Ken Griffey, Jr.(36); Ty Cobb(5).
Naturals 5 Hammers 3
Max Scherzer pitched a quality start, allowing three runs over seven innings, to lead the Naturals past the Hammers, 5-3. Yadier Molina had a pair of doubles and a sacrifice fly and Yasiel Puig went deep for the Nats. Hank Aaron and Frank Robinson hit back to back homers in the bottom of the third for the Hammers. WP-Max Scherzer(14-6). LP-Sandy Koufax(5-13). HR-Yasiel Puig(11); Hank Aaron(29), Frank Robinson(17).
