Sultans 10 Clippers 8

The Sultans held on to win a 10-8 slugfest, knocking off the first place Clippers. Both teams banged out 15 hits. There were six homeruns in total, two of them coming in a four run, bottom of the ninth, rally, which ultimately fell two runs short. George Sisler was 4-5 for the Sultans, with a homerun(12) and a pair of doubles. Joe Jackson was a double shy of the cycle, garnering a homerun(17), triple and single.

Stan Musial(30), Ted Williams(33), Jimmie Foxx(37) and Lou Gehrig(32) all went deep for the losing Clippers. Dazzy Vance won his league leading sixteenth game, beating Dizzy Dean.

Sloppy play by shortstop, Luis Aparicio, cost the Hammers dearly in this, 4-3 loss to the Hammers. Aparicio committed two errors, the second leading the the eventual winning run, in the top of the sixth. The Hammers got a pair of solo blasts(18, 19) from Willie McCovey and another long ball from Hank Aaron(32), yet would fall short.

Robinson Cano(13) and Mike Trout(14) each homered for the Naturals.

Steve Carlton nabbed his second shutout of the year, whitewashing the Comets, 11-0. Lefty was on with the stick as well, stroking an rbi double and a single. The real star with the lumber, though, was second sacker, Joe Morgan, who belted two homeruns(17,18) one of them, a grand slam in the seventh. Little Joe scored three times and knocked in five runs. Mike Schmidt(28) also homered.
