AUGUST 8 GAME RESULTS

Terrifics 7 Hammers 3 In the only game on the slate that was not part of a double header, the Terrifics beat the Hammers, 7-3. Bob Veale was tagged for seven runs over six innings, with the Terrifics getting homeruns from George Foster(30) and Rod Carew(5). Bob Gibson(10-8) was the winning pitchers. Veale, of course, took the loss, dropping to(3-12). Willie Mays(36) and Hank Aaron(34) hit homers for the Hammers.

Comets 6 Mad Dogs 1 #1 The Comets defeated the Mad Dogs in the first of two games, 6-1, behind, Whitey Ford(9-8). Errors cost the Mad Dogs, as four of the six runs charged to Tom Glavine were unearned. Ken Griffey, Jr.(41) continues to climb up the homerun leader board. Norm Siebern(22) and Roy Campanella(15), went deep for the winning Comets.

Mad Dogs 5 Comets 1 #2 The Mad Dogs bounced back in game two, with a 5-1 victory. Kevin Brown(8-4) got the win in the B game, with Bob Turley(1-7) taking the loss. Al Kaline was caught by Craig Biggio, with the hidden ball trick, in the fifth inning. Derek Jeter(3) homered for the Mad Dogs; Mickey Mantle(35) clouted a pinch hit homerun for the Comets.

Clippers 5 Naturals 4 #1 The first place Clippers took both ends of their twinbill with the Naturals, increasing their lead to a game and a half over the Mad Dogs. Game one was notched on a walkoff, rbi double by Jackie Robinson. Lou Gehrig(34) and Stan Musial(31) went deep for the Clippers; Miguel Cabrera(34) hit one out for the Naturals. Lefty Gomez(5-7) was the winning pitchers. Jonathan Papelbon(1-5) took the loss.

Clippers 5 Naturals 3 #2 The B squad team made it a sweep, getting a single, double and two rbi’s, from Bob Elliott, as the Clippers won, 5-3. Andrew McCutchen(3) had a long ball for the Naturals. WP-Hal Newhouser(6-3). LP-Javy Lopez(2-4).

Sultans 11 Peaches 2 #1 The Sultans also took both games, winning game one in an 11-2 drubbing over the Peaches. It was one of the highest scoring games, with no homeruns hit. Joe Jackson was 4-6; Ray Chapman was 4-5. WP-Herb Pennock(8-9). LP-Rube Waddell(6-11).

Sultans 3 Peaches 1 #2 The Sultans’ B team took game two, by a 3-1 margin. Again, no homeruns were hit by either team. Joe Sewell had a triple and Edd Roush, a double, for the Sultans. WP-Red Faber(3-7). LP-Walter Johnson(9-6).
