GAME RECAPS:
GEHRIG AND FOXX POWER CLIPPERS PAST PEACHES
Lou Gehrig(37) and Jimmie Foxx(39), each homered, Gehrig adding a single and a double, to lead the Clippers past the Peaches, 7-3. Wildfire Schulte(21) clubbed one out for the losing squad. WP-Mel Parnell(8-9). LP-Ed Walsh(7-11).
WHITEY FORD TOSSES COMPLETE GAME WIN OVER HAMMERS
Whitey Ford went the distance, allowing just five hits, in a 5-1 win over the Hammers. Only a Hank Aaron(37) solo homerun in the top of the third, prevented a shutout. Ken Boyer’s(13) three run clout in the bottom of the third, was the key blow for the victors. WP-Whitey Ford(10-8). LP-Bob Veale(4-13).
NATURALS DROP EIGHTH STRAIGHT, THANKS TO PENNOCK AND RUTH
The Sultan’s Herb Pennock won for the third straight game and Babe Ruth reclaimed the HR lead with his(45)circuit clout, as the Sultans defeated the Naturals, 6-2. It was the eighth loss in a row for the Nats. Yasiel Puig(15) belted a homer for the Naturals. WP-Herb Pennock(10-9). LP-Clayton Kershaw(11-9).
MAD DOGS BEAT TERRIFICS IN 11 INNINGS TO STAY A HALF GAME BACK
In one of the wildest games this year, Mark McGwire(41) hit a game winning, two run homerun in the bottom of the eleventh inning, to notch a thrilling, 3-2 win over the Terrifics. His game winning homerun snatched victory from defeat, for in the top of that inning, Pedro Martinez had surrendered a go ahead homer to pinch hitter, Graig Nettles(6). The Terrifics outhit the Mad Dogs, eight to five. WP-Pedro Martinez(7-5). LP-Goose Gossage(3-5).
