CLIPPERS AND MAD DOGS EACH LOSE; CLIPS LEAD REMAINS .5

The Peaches used a five run, seventh inning, to defeat the Clippers, 7-1. Sherry Magee(21) had the game’s only homerun. Winning pitcher, Rube Waddell(7-12) limited the Clippers to just four hits. Losing pitcher(Schoolboy Rowe 12-7)

The Terrifics put to bed an eight game losing streak, by destroying the Mad Dogs, 16-5. The winners belted four homeruns, including a grand slam by Garry Maddox(5). Also going deep were: Joe Morgan(19), Reggie Jackson(32) and George Foster(34). Maddox had five runs batted in, Jackson four. Morgan crossed the plate four times, at the top of the order. For the Mad Dogs, Ken Griffey, Jr.(45) homered, tying Babe Ruth for the league lead. Ivan Rodriguez(13) also went deep. WP-Steve Carlton(11-9). LP-Roger Clemens(11-5).

Facing one of the leagues best pitchers, Jon Lester(8-11) tossed a strong eight innings, to beat Dazzy Vance(16-6) and the Sultans, 4-2. This despite being out hit by the Sultans, 10-6. Troy Tulowitzki(15) had a homerun.

The Comets split a twinbill with the Hammers, losing the A game, 2-1, but coming back to win the B game, 10-3. Willie Mays'(38th) homer was the difference in the first game. Don Drysdale(5-14) earned his second complete game win. Robin Roberts(12-14), took the loss in game one. Big boppers, Ted Kluszewski(7) and Yogi Berra(6), led the offense in game two. WP-Billy Pierce(4-4). LP-Larry Jackson(7-8).
