MAD DOGS CLIMB INTO FIRST PLACE BY EDGING NATURALS, 3-2

The Mad Dogs have knocked the Clippers out of the top spot in the league by nipping the Naturals, 3-2. Greg Maddux(12-8) got the best of Max Scherzer(15-7) in the tight ball game. Maddux went a full eight innings before handing the ball off to Mariano Rivera, with a 3-1 lead. Rivera surrendered a lead off double to Yadier Molina, who eventually scored, but Mariano was able to stem any further damage. Chipper Jones(30) two run homerun was the big blow for the Mad Dogs.

AARON’S THREE RUN WALKOFF HR, SINKS CLIPPERS, AS HAMMERS WIN, 7-4

The game was knotted at four, when Hank Aaron(38) stepped to the plate, with two on, in the bottom of the ninth. He sent a Bob Feller(9-3) fastball over the wall, ending the game and dropping the Clippers to second place by a half game. Roger Maris(3) had a pinch hit home run for the Hammers; Stan Musial(34) clubbed one out for the losing team. Vern Law(3-2) earned the win in relief.

BABE RUTH BELTS 46TH HR AS SULTANS WIN SLUGFEST OVER TERRIFICS

A total of seven home runs were hit in this game, five by the Terrifics, who lost, 8-7. Joe Morgan(20), Rod Carew(7), Reggie Jackson(33), George Foster(35) and Johnny Bench(21) all went deep. Tris Speaker(8) joined Ruth(46) in the home run derby for the Sultans. WP-Burleigh Grimes(4-6). LP-Goose Gossage(3-6)

PEACHES HOLD OFF LATE CHARGE FROM COMETS TO WIN, 7-5

Vean Gregg took the mound in the top of the ninth, with a 7-3 lead. Ernie Banks(23) made things interesting with a two run blast, but ultimately, fell short, 7-5. Mickey Mantle(40) homered on the game’s first pitch, from Christy Mathewson(12-5), who earned the victory. Honus Wagner(14) had a big, three run clout, for the Peaches. LP-Warren Spahn(4-15)
