GAME RECAPS:

The Mad Dogs are now up a game and a half over the second place Clippers. They defeated the Comets, 9-2, thanks to homeruns by Ken Griffey, Jr.(46), Mark McGwire(43) and Sammy Sosa(29). Griffey remains one behind Ruth in the homerun crown battle. The Babe also hit one out today. Winning pitcher, Roger Clemens(12-5), earned his first complete game, despite the Mad Dogs being outhit, 9-7.

The Naturals upset the Clippers, 5-2. Yadier Molina(6) homered twice and Miguel Cabrera(39) added one. Lou Gehrig(40) belted one for the losing Clippers. Jon Lester(9-11) earned the win, while Dizzy Dean(11-9) took the loss.

The Terrifics’ Reggie Jackson(35) clubbed a two run, walkoff homerun, in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving his team a 3-1 win over the Peaches. Right until the end, this game was a pitcher’s battle of the highest order. Winning pitcher, Steve Carlton(12-9) and losing pitcher, Rube Waddell(7-11), each pitched into the ninth. Waddell fanned 13, while Carlton struck out a dozen. Elliott Maddox(6) also hit a homer for the Terrifics.

Lefty Williams(4-13) finally notched a complete game win and Babe Ruth(47) homered to stay in first place in the homerun chase, as the Sultans defeated the Hammers, 6-2. Willie McCovey(21) clubbed one for the Hammers. LP-Don Drysdale(5-15).
