WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE LEAGUE

The Clippers came out on top in a must win game against the Mad Dogs. Mel Parnell grinded out a complete game, 3-2 win, allowing only three hits, but also giving up seven walks. Jimmie Foxx and Lou Boudreau had three hits each for the Clippers. One of the Mad Dogs’ three hits, was a home run by Alex Rodriguez(26). The win allowed the Clippers to shave a game off the Mad Dog’s lead, for the flag. WP-Mel Parnell(10-9). LP-Tom Glanville(14-7).

The Peaches continue their freefall, losing their sixth straight game, 10-3, to the Sultans, who have won their last four. Though no homers were hit in the game, the Sultans offense was led by Tris Speaker, who scored four runs and had three hits. George Sisler was no slouch with the stick, knocking in four runs, with a double and a single. WP-C. Mays(9-11). LP-Three Finger Brown(5-7).

The Hammers banged out four runs against Bob Gibson and the Terrifics in the very first inning, enroute to a 6-4 victory. Willie McCovey(32) and Frank Robinson(24) banged out homers for the Hammers, Mike Schmidt(25) clubbed one for the Terrifics. WP-Bob Veale(5-14). LP-Fergie Jenkins(5-5).

After falling behind early, by a 2-0 score, the Comets’ Roy Campanella(18) stunned Clayton Kershaw and the Naturals’, by belting a three run home run in the top of the seventh inning. The final score: Comets 3 Naturals 2. It was a hard luck loss of the worst kind for Kershaw, who allowed just three hits and fanned nine, yet one pitch cost him the game. WP-Whitey Ford(11-8). LP-Clayton Kershaw(11-11).
