STARGELL HOMERS FOR THIRD STRAIGHT GAME; BUCS WIN, 3-2
Willie Stargell(4) homered for the third game in a row and Manny Sanguillen(1) hit his first of the season, as Pittsburgh edged the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-2.
The Pirates used four pitchers, but in the end, held the Phillies to just four hits. Luke Walker(1-1) started and went six innings. Mudcat Grant, Nelson Briles and Dave Giusti, then pitched an inning each, with Guisti earning his second save.
Stargell’s homerun against Phillie starter, Chris Short, in the top of the seventh, broke a 2-2 tie. Grant struggled in relief, walking the first two batters he faced, but settled down and escaped the inning without further damage. Briles and Giusti then pitched a scoreless inning each.
Now 4-3, Pittsburgh wraps up the series tomorrow, with Bob Moose facing Woodie Fryman.
