1971 Pittsburgh Pirates Replay

GM# 29 MAY 9, 1971 AT LOS ANGELES DODGERS

DODGERS DEMOLISH PIRATES, 12-5, IN SERIES FINALE

After losing five straight games to Pittsburgh, the Los Angeles Dodgers finally had enough and exploded for 12 runs on 16 hits, as they bombed the Pirates, 12-5.

Starter, Steve Blass(4-1) lasted just two and a third innings. He allowed seven runs in all, though three of those were unearned, thanks to errors by Bill Mazeroski and Al Oliver.

L.A.’s Jim Lefebvre led the offense, with a home run and two doubles. Duke Sims and Richie Allen also homered for the Dodgers. Gene Clines doubled twice and knocked in two of the Pirates five runs, at the top of the order.

Doyle Alexander got the win, in what was by far, Pittsburgh’s worst loss this season.

Pittsburgh doesn’t play tomorrow, then heads to San Diego for two games against the Padres.
