PIRATES RETURN HOME BUT LOSE, 5-3, TO METS

Jerry Koosman went seven innings to earn the win and Tommie Agee homered and drove in three runs, as the N.Y. Mets defeated Pittsburgh, by a score of 5-3.

Starter, Bob Johnson, lasted just three innings, allowing four runs, though the first was unearned, due to a Jackie Hernandez error. Nelson Briles took over and tossed a scoreless four innings, to try and keep the Pirates in the game, but they couldn’t generate much offense. Bob Miller was the final reliever and he gave up a run in the top of the ninth, to salt it away for the Mets.

Roberto Clemente had a nice game in defeat, with a homerun and a double. WP-Jerry Koosman. LP-Bob Johnson(2-1). HR-Clemente(4), Agee.
