AL OLIVER WINS IT FOR PIRATES WITH 12TH INNING WALKOFF HOME RUN

After Gary Gentry and Steve Blass traded zeroes for most of the game, the game moved into extra innings, with both teams still unable to plate a run. Finally, Al Oliver ended it by drilling Ron Taylor’s first pitch into the seats in the bottom of the 12th inning, giving Pittsburgh a 1-0, win over the New York Mets.

The Mets left ten runners on base; the Pirates left seven on. Dave Cash returned from reserve military duty, going 1-4, with a walk.
