ELLIS MOVES TO 4-0 WITH 3-1 WIN OVER METS

Dock Ellis won his fourth decision, as the Pirates defeated the Mets, 3-1. The Mets got an unearned run in the first inning, via a Dave Cash error. The Bucs took the lead in the third, thanks to a Gene Alley single; a sacrifice bunt by Ellis and after Cash popped out, back to back doubles by Vic Davalillo and Roberto Clemente.

Pittsburgh added one more run in the bottom of the sixth when, Al Oliver doubled, moved to third on Bob Robertson’s single, then score on Manny Sanguillen’s sacrifice fly. Bob Miller picked up a save in this one. WP-Dock Ellis(4-0). LP-Nolan Ryan. SV-Miller(2).

The Montreal Expos come into Pittsburgh for a two game series, starting tomorrow. Carl Morton takes the hill against Luke Walker.
