1971 Pittsburgh Pirates Replay

GM# 37 MAY 19, 1971 AT CINCINNATI REDS

NOLAN, PEREZ LEAD REDS TO VICTORY OVER PIRATES

Gary Nolan grinded through a complete game win and Tony Perez was 3-4, with a home run, as Cincinnati defeated Pittsburgh, 3-1.

The Pirates had runners in scoring position five times, yet their only run came on a solo homer from Rich Hebner, spoiling Nolan’s shutout bid, in the top of the ninth. Hebner added a double and a single to lead Pittsburgh’s offense.

Bob Moose got the start and allowed three runs on eight hits in five innings of work. After dropping their last two games, the Bucs look to get back on track against these Reds tomorrow, with Steve Blass facing Ross Grimsley.

WP-Gary Nolan. LP-Bob Moose(2-3). HR-Richie Hebner(3).
