ELLIS & LUMBER COMPANY END SKID WITH 9-3 WIN OVER MONTREAL

Pittsburgh ace, Dock Ellis, improved to 5-0 and his teammates blasted three home runs, including a grand slam by Roberto Clemente, as Pittsburgh stopped a three-game losing streak, with a 9-3 win over the Montreal Expos.

Ellis was staked to a 7-0 lead, after scoring a run in the first and six more in the second, five of those charged to Expos’ starter, Craig Morton. Bob Robertson, who leads the team in homers, led off the second with a solo blast, his eleventh on the season. Pittsburgh loaded the bases and Clemente made them pay with a grand slam.

Willie Stargell returned to the lineup after missing several games with hand tendonitis and in his third at bat, launched his ninth home run over the wall at Jarry Park.
