Pittsburgh still leads the National League Eastern Division, but find themselves in a dogfight with the St. Louis Cardinals, as May comes to an end. The Pirates record is 32-16 overall. They won 17 games and lost 9 in the month of May.
St. Louis has a record of 32 17, with one tie. They have won seven games in a row and 11 of their last 12. That puts them just a half game behind the Bucs, for the East lead. The stage is set for a big series, as the Cardinals come into Pittsburgh on June 1,2 and 3rd.

Steve Blass currently has a 22 game scoreless inning streak and back to back shutouts. His record is 6-1, with a 1.92ERA. Luke Walker is 6-2 with a 2.27 ERA and leads the team with 41 strikeouts. Nelson Briles is 4-0, with a 1.45 ERA.
