DOCK ELLIS WHITEWASHES ASTROS TO COMPLETE SWEEP
One day after Steve Blass narrowly missed pitching a shutout against the Houston Astros, Dock Ellis turned the trick, winning a 2-0 decision. In going the distance, Ellis allowed no runs, on five hits, struck out five and walked two.
The sweep of the Astros and the Cardinals loss to Cincinnati, gives Pittsburgh a 3.5 game lead in the N.L. East standings. The team will travel to Chicago to begin a ten game road trip. In game one, Nelson Briles will get a start against Milt Pappas. WP-Dock Ellis(7-0). LP-Wade Blasingame. HR-Stargell(17).
