STARGELL’S TWO HOMERS POWER PITTSBURGH PAST CHICAGO

Willie Stargell homered twice and drove in five runs, as the Pirates salvaged the final game of their series with Chicago, by a score of 7-3.

The Bucs broke a 3-3 tie by scoring four times in the top of the eighth inning. Bob Robertson also went deep and Roberto Clemente added a single and a triple. Bob Moose started and went six innings, but Nellie Briles picked up the win in relief. WP-Nellie Briles(5-2). LP-Ron Tompkins. HR-Willie Stargell 2(19), Bob Robertson(15); Glenn Beckert.

Things get no easier for Pittsburgh, as they now travel to St. Louis to battle the second place Cardinals in a four game series. A red hot, Steve Blass will face Jerry Reuss in game one.
