1971 Pittsburgh Pirates Replay

GM# 63 JUNE 15, 1971 AT HOUSTON ASTROS

BUCS EDGE ASTROS, 2-1, BEHIND BLASS 3 HITTER

A walk to Jesus Alou; a sacrifice bunt by Joe Morgan, then a single by Bob Watson cost Steve Blass his third shutout of the year, but he still came away with his ninth victory on a 2-1, three hitter.

Blass himself, drove in what would be the eventual winning run. In the top of the sixth, Al Oliver singled and advanced on a passed ball. Manny Sanguillen and Jackie Hernandez were retired, but Blass stroked a single into center field, plating Oliver. The Pirates mound star earned his fourth complete game, allowing just one run, on three hits. He struck out four and walked three. WP-Steve Blass(9-1). LP-Larry Dierker.

Pittsburgh goes for the series sweep today, with Dock Ellis facing Wade Blasingame.
