GM# 66 JUNE 19, 1971 VS MONTREAL EXPOS
EXPOS END BUCS WIN STREAK IN CONVINCING FASHION
All good things must come to an end. So it was for the Pittsburgh Pirates’ six game win streak, which ended at the hands of the Montreal Expos. The team from up north demolished the Pirates, 9-2. Pittsburgh actually scored the first two runs of the ball game, in the bottom of the first, but it was all downhill from there.
The Expos got home runs from Ron Hunt and Boots Day, tagging starter and losing pitcher, Bob Moose, for four runs in five and a third innings. Bob Johnson and Bob Miller combined for two and two thirds innings of scoreless relief, but sandwiched in between them, was Bob Veale, who allowed three runs in just a third of an inning and mop up man, Jim Nelson, who gave up two runs in two thirds innings pitched. WP-Carl Morton. LP-Bob Moose(3-6). HR-Ron Hunt, Boots Day.
The series finishes up with a double header. The first game has Steve Blass up against Bill Stoneman, while game two features Nellie Briles against Jim Britton.
In league news, the Cardinals have dropped four straight, while the Mets have won three out of four. New York is actually a few percentage points ahead of St. Louis, though further back in game behind, due to a different # of games played.
