GM# 79 JULY 1, 1971 AT NEW YORK METS
BUCS STAY MIRED IN SLUMP; LOSE TO METS, 6-3
The Pirates are mired in a slump and not even ace, Dock Ellis can pull them out of it. The team has dropped six straight games and Ellis was the losing pitcher in their most recent contest, as the Mets won a 6-3 decision.
Ellis gave up four runs in six innings, as Ed Kranepool, Cleon Jones and Tommie Agee all hit doubles.
Manny Sanguillen doubled for the Pirates and Vic Davalillio added a pinch hit triple in the top of the ninth, but the game was largely decided by that point.
The Mets picked up a full game in the standings, as they creep closer to first place. Pittsburgh now heads to Chicago, to play the Cubs in a four game series. Bob Moose will face off against Fergie Jenkins, in game one.
