Dave Cash singled in Manny Sanguillen, in the bottom of the eleventh inning, as Pittsburgh defeated the Atlanta Braves, 3-2, in the first game of their series. Willie Stargell and Dave Cash had three hits apiece.
Sonny Jackson and Gil Garrido had three hits each for the Braves. Bob Miller earned the win in relief and remains unbeaten with a 7 and 0 record. Steve Blass will take on Phil Niekro in the next game. WP-Bob Miller(7-0). LP-Cecil Upshaw.
