DESPITE THREE HOME RUNS, BUCS LOSE 5-3 TO BRAVES
Winning pitcher, Phil Niekro only allowed four hits in seven innings, though three of them were solo homers. However, Atlanta pounded out 15 hits, to defeat Steve Blass and the Pirates, 5-3.
Willie Stargell homered in the second and fourth innings and Bob Robertson put one over the wall in the bottom of the seventh. That would be the extent of the Pirate scoring. Meanwhile, the Braves were having their way with Blass, who was tagged for five runs on 13 hits, in the loss.
Ralph Garr, Hank Aaron and Sonny Jackson all had three hits apiece. The two teams finish up the series tomorrow, before the All Star break. WP-Phil Niekro. LP-Steve Blass(10-2). HR-Willie Stargell 2(28), Bob Robertson(19).
