PADRES THROTTLE PIRATES, 12-7, TO WIN SERIES

Though starter, Dock Ellis escaped with a no decision, his ERA took a big hit, as he was tagged for seven runs over just two innings, in Pittsburgh’s 12-7 loss to San Diego. That gives the Padres a 3-2, series win.

Don Mason had four hits and three runs scored. Larry Stahl and Fred Kendell had three hits each. Dave Campbell homered. For the Pirates, Jose Pagan had four singles, Roberto Clemente had a pair of doubles. Rennie Stennett and Gene Clines had two hits each. WP-Ed Acosta. LP-Bob Veale(2-3). HR-Dave Campbell.

The Pirates will now welcome the Los Angeles Dodgers, beginning with a double header. Al Downing vs. Bruce Kison.
