BRILES SECOND SHUTOUT PUTS CAP ON PIRATES SWEEP OF DODGERS
Nellie Briles tossed his second shutout of the season, defeating the L.A. Dodgers, 2-0, on a four hitter. The win gave Pittsburgh a three game sweep of their most recent series.
Willie Stargell had three singles and scored one of the Bucs’ two runs. Briles, one of the better hitting pitchers in the league, had two singles. WP-Nellie Briles(8-5). LP-Claude Osteen.
The Pirates now wrap up their long homestand, with a three games series against the San Francisco Giants.
