CLEMENTE HOMERS TWICE; STARGELL ONCE, AS BUCS BEAT PADRES, 7-2

Roberto Clemente hit a pair of solo homers and also singled twice and Willie Stargell, who had not homered since July 10th, hit his 29th, as Pittsburgh defeated San Diego, 7-2.

Steve Blass started and pitched six and two thirds innings, picking up his eleventh win, though he really had to grind. The Pirates were actually outhit, 14-13, with Blass allowing a dozen safeties. However, the Bucs sent most of their base runners home, while the Padres stranded 14 runners.

The two clubs will wrap up the series with a double header. In game one, Bob Johnson faces Fred Norman. Game two pits Bob Moose against Steve Arlin.
