BUCS POST 3 SPOT IN 8TH TO NOTCH, 6-5 COMEBACK WIN VS L.A.

Pittsburgh headed into the top of the eighth inning, trailing 5-3. Dock Ellis had started and gone six innings, but had been cuffed around, allowing four runs on eleven hits.

Roberto Clemente kicked off the eighth with a ringing double against Don Mueller. He scored on Manny Sanguillen’s single. Mueller was lifted for Pete Mikkelson, who retired Bob Robertson and Jose Pagan, however, Al Oliver clubbed a two run home run, which would prove to be the game winner.

Bob Robertson had a two run clout, his twentieth, in the fourth. Bob Veale was the winner and Dave Giusti notched the save. The Pirates have won six straight. WP-Bob Veale(4-3). LP-Pete Mikkelson. HR-Bob Robertson(20), Al Oliver(14).

Luke Walker will take on Bill Singer in game two of the series.
