BUCS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER TO COP SERIES SPLIT WITH PHILS
Pittsburgh took both ends of a double header against the Philadelphia Phillies, both games by 5-3 scores. Steve Blass went six innings in the opener and improves to 13-4. Roberto Clemente homered for the ninth time and Dave Giusti earned a save in each game. Woodie Fryman lost and Deron Johnson homered in game one.
The second game saw the Pirates score three runs in the bottom of the eighth, in a comeback win. Bob Johnson started and went seven innings, but Mudcat Grant(2-3) earned the win in relief. Willie Stargell(33) and Bob Robertson(23) each clubbed home runs in this game. Tim McCarver had one for Philadelphia. Chris Short was the losing pitcher.
Pittsburgh has a day off, then welcomes the Chicago Cubs into town for two games. The only game tomorrow is L.A. at St. Louis. Standings will be posted then.
