GIBSON GOES DISTANCE AS CARDS BEAT PIRATES, 4-1
Bob Gibson tossed a complete game, five hitter, as St. Louis defeated Pittsburgh for the third straight game, 4-1.
Bob Johnson started for the Pirates and pitched fairly well into the sixth inning, leaving the game, trailing, 2-1. In the top of the eighth, Joe Torre clubbed a two run blast off Dave Nelson, to put it away.
