BUCS END LOSING STREAK BY PULVERIZING ASTROS, 13-0
After dropping five straight games, the last four to the second place, St. Louis Cardinals; Pittsburgh had to take its frustration out on some poor team and the Houston Astros were the unlucky group.
Dock Ellis spun his fourth shutout of the season, in a game that was over as soon as it started. The Pirates tallied 13 runs, tied for the most in a game this year, in an 18 hit attack which featured two homeruns, a triple and six doubles.
Willie Stargell broke out of a power slump with a pair of homers, his 34th and 35th of the season. Al Oliver smacked a triple, double and two singles and Richie Hebner clouted three doubles. Vic Davalillo had a pair of two baggers, as well. Manny Sanguillen got in on the fun, with a three single day, also driving in a pair of runs. WP-Dock Ellis(12-4). LP-Jack Billingham. Luke Walker will pitch against Wade Blasingame, in the second contest. The Reds were kind enough to edge the Cardinals, allowing Pittsburgh to gain a game back in the standings.
