Bob Moose had a strong outing, going seven and a third innings, allowing no runs and just four hits. With two men on and one out in the top of the eighth, Dave Giusti came on and got the final two outs in the eighth, then pitched a scoreless ninth, to complete the combined whitewash of the Phillies.
For the Pirates offensively, Willie Stargell hit his league-leading, 40th home run in the last of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Pittsburgh added two more runs, when Dave Cash had an rbi single, which scored Al Oliver. Jackie Hernandez’s sacrifice fly plated Milt May. WP-Bob Moose(8-10).
